The contract for the Municipal Mausoleum Phase XII was awarded to George Stone & Sons by the Corporation of the City of Sault Ste. Marie and their consultant EPOH Inc.
The project was divided into two phases, with George Stone & Sons completing the foundation, ground floor slab and the back wall in the initial phase.
Due to the winter break, work on the project was halted, resulting in reduced costs for heating and hoarding.
Construction was paused on November 26, 2009, and resumed a month ahead of schedule on March 1, 2010, thanks to favorable weather conditions.
George Stone & Sons began forming and pouring 32 single crypts, 72 companion crypts, and 8 tandem crypts.
The finishing touches included Crypt Doors made of Mountain Pink Granite from the Vermillion River to match the existing Mausoleum. Additionally, the crypt sidewalls and trim were adorned with a brick veneer made of polished light grey “Stanstead” granite.
The project also involved precast interlocking paving and hydraulic seeding.
