PROJECTS
P6A 1R3
George Stone & Sons Inc. was contracted to build the Canadian Bridge Plaza Modernization - Package B. This particular project consisted of building a new 652 square metre Duty Free Store and an 810 square metre Maintenance Building. It also involved preparing civil work and making changes to the bridge approach such as lanes, fibre cabling, and lighting in anticipation of Package A.
The work is divided into three stages with specific tasks planned for each stage to ensure a smooth transition and to allow work to proceed as usual for all government bodies operating at the Bridge and for the public using the facilities.
In Stage 1, the existing water mains and storm sewers within the area of the new Duty Free Building were reworked. Once rerouted or removed, the new Duty Free Building area was filled in with compacted engineered fill to support the building foundations and shell.
Stage 2 involved completing the Duty Free Building, landscaping, and parking lot, as well as laying the foundation for the maintenance building. The lanes on the north side of the ramp were altered to accommodate the installation of a new retaining wall system and engineered fill. Traffic flow on the bridge was maintained throughout this stage. The completion of the Duty Free Building by the end of August marks the end of Phase 1 of the project.
The final stage of the project includes constructing the Maintenance Building and parking lot, with a construction fence separating the work area from the completed Duty Free Parking lot. Once the landscaping is finished, the grounds will be enclosed by perimeter fencing. The completion of the Maintenance Building, Hub Trail, and Fencing will mark the end of Phase 2.
