Sault Ste. Marie, ON

Completed: 2012
Work Type: Institutional

The West End Community Centre, now known as the Northern Community Centre, was constructed in two stages, with George Stone & Sons serving as the successful General Contractor that secured the contract. Our firm was chosen for our expertise, reputation and ability to deliver high-quality results.

The building itself is a single storey complex that spans an impressive 60,000 square feet. One of the standout features of the NCC is its two indoor multi-use turf fields which have a capacity for 900 spectators. These fields are housed in a pre-engineered structure from American Buildings Company ensuring durability and functionality.

In addition to the turf fields the centre also includes a 6,500 square foot library and multi-use meeting rooms. This new library replaces the previous Korah Road Library Branch and offers a modern and accessible space for the community. Equipped with Wi-Fi the library will provide a wide range of programs for people of all ages including children, teens, adults and seniors.

To compliment the sports and library facilities the NCC also features change rooms and a concession stand. These amenities ensure that visitors have everything they need for a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

One of the key achievements of this project was the ability to meet a strict deadline. Thanks to our experience and expertise the City of Sault Ste. Marie was able to have the construction complete in time for the 2012 CARHA Hockey World Cup participants to utilize the facility. This demonstrates George Stone & Son’s commitment to delivering on time and meeting the needs of their clients.

Overall, the NCC is a top-notch facility constructed by a top-notch company. With its impressive size, state-of-the-art features, commitment to accessibility and community programming it is sure to become a beloved hub for the residents of Sault Ste. Marie.
