HISTORY

In 1915, George Stone established his very own construction company, which was famously known as George Stone Construction. This company operated in Sault Ste Marie and the neighboring townships. Following their return from World War II in 1945, George's two sons, Edward (Ed) and William (Bill), joined their father in a partnership, forming George Stone & Sons. Later in 1950, Robert (Bob), the third son, began working with the firm and eventually became a shareholder in 1965.

The company was officially founded as George Stone & Sons Limited in 1961, within the jurisdiction of Ontario. George Stone stepped down from the organization in 1965. In 1966, Harry Stone, the son of Ed, commenced his training as a carpenter under the company. By 1982, Harry had risen to the position of Vice President at George Stone & Sons, eventually assuming the role of President at George Stone & Sons Ltd. in 2000. He held the position of vice president until December 27, 2007. In 2012, Harry and his son Chris became shareholders in the newly formed entity George Stone & Sons Inc. Presently, Chris serves as a director at George Stone & Sons Inc. Rodney Stone, the son of Bill, joined the company in 1973 before pursuing further education. Rod Stone recently retired in December 2021.

In 1987, Randy, the son of Bob, came back to Sault Ste. Marie to manage our affiliated residential construction firm, Kwik Construction. Later in 2006, Randy became a part of George Stone & Sons and closed Kwik Construction. In December 2021, Randy Stone was elected as the President of George Stone & Sons Inc.

In the year 2012, the corporation underwent a reorganization that facilitated the retirement of individuals and extended an invitation to Rich Alexander and April Foster, both key employees, to become part of the company's ownership. Rich, who is a second-generation employee following in his father's footsteps, has been overseeing projects as a superintendent. In December 2021, he was elected to the position of vice president. April initially joined the company as an administrative assistant in 2005, and gradually progressed to hold positions of project manager, contract manager, and safety coordinator. She has been fulfilling the role of Secretary-Treasurer since the company’s inception.

George Stone & Sons takes great pride in its extensive roster of long-term employees. By being signatory to the Carpenter's and Labourer's unions, we have access to an abundant pool of skilled workers in the field. Our expertise lies in tackling the challenging conditions of the harsh north, and we are well-versed in anticipating the unpredictable weather.

From its modest origins in single-family residential construction, our company has evolved to undertake diverse projects in the institutional, commercial, and industrial sectors across Northern Ontario.
